NAKURU & NAIVASHA DAY TRIP EXCURSION

Lake Nakuru National Park, located in Nakuru, is about a 2-hour drive from Nairobi.

The excursion involves:

DAY 1

Pick up from Nairobi at 7 am after your breakfast for your drive to Nakuru. Along the way, you will stop to view the magnificent sights of the Rift Valley. Arrive mid-morning at Lake Nakuru National Park. This is a day of experiencing wildlife at its best. Apart from the hundreds of pink flamingoes, the flora and fauna you come across will leave you mesmerized. You will drive for kilometers in this extraordinary national park, which is a world-renowned sanctuary for numerous species of birds. In addition to the numerous bird species, there are up to 56 different species of mammals, including the white rhino. Your driver will also take you to the different viewpoints in different parts of the park. The viewpoints offer spectacular views of the park and surrounding areas. After the game drive, it will be time to check into your accommodation facility for the evening and enjoy a sumptuous lunch.

In the afternoon, one can relax by the poolside or take a dip. Dinner later in the evening will precede a restful evening filled with African sounds.

DAY 2

After breakfast, you will proceed to Hell’s Gate National Park for a morning game drive. Lying to the south of Lake Naivasha, the park, mainly comprised of a savannah ecosystem, harbors a variety of wildlife. There are over 100 species of birds in the park, including vultures, Verreaux eagles, augur buzzards, and swifts. African buffalo, zebra, eland, hartebeest, Thomson’s gazelles, klipspringer antelopes, Chandler’s mountain reedbuck, and baboons are also common. Lions, leopards, and cheetahs are very rare.

A dip in the naturally hot relaxing water from the underground springs can also be enjoyed at the Geothermal Spa located within the park. Thereafter, have a sumptuous lunch at Elsamere, a conservation center and the previous home to pioneer conservationists George & Joy Adamson.

Located on the southern shores of Kenya’s second-largest freshwater lake, Lake Naivasha; this impressive property is home to over 400 species of birdlife and has an abundance of water life as well. The surrounding landscape is home to a variety of game, including giraffes, buffaloes, colobus monkeys, and others.

Much of the lake is surrounded by forests of the yellow-barked Acacia Xanthophlea, known as the yellow fever tree. The waters of the lake draw a great range of game to these shores such as giraffes, buffalo, colobus monkey, and large hippo populations that laze around in the shallows during the day. There are two smaller lakes nearby, Oloidien and Sonachi, a bright green crater lake. Boat trips are a great way to explore the lake.

Activities available at the lake include boat excursions, bird watching, fishing, cycling, and nature trails.

In the afternoon, embark on a tour of Lake Naivasha and a visit to Crescent Island, located within the lake and home to wildlife and birdlife.

After this riveting experience, return to learn a bit of history behind Elsamere as you enjoy an afternoon cup of tea and refreshments. Before your departure, a tree can also be planted to commemorate your visit and to add as well to conservation efforts.
